LakeShore was created in June of 1969 by Patricia Wilhelm as a small group serving four families. In 1970, Fred Jennings became the director and it continued to grow over the years, now serving more than sixty families each summer. Following in his father’s footsteps, Dan Jennings now serves as LakeShore Director, carrying forward the traditions of the last 44 years while bringing fresh ideas to meet the needs of today’s children. We are a non-profit organization chartered in the State of Ohio.
Our mission is to serve children with special learning needs and their families throughout the year. Through a happy, non-competitive relationship with other campers and a caring staff, each child has an opportunity to realize her/his potential. We offer a program for continued growth of the child’s overall development during the summer months with emphasis on working and playing together, reinforcing academics from your child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), developing a sense of responsibility, and developing a positive self-concept — all in a camp-like setting!
Our annual budget is funded by camp tuition, and personal, corporate and civic donations. Fundraising events in the past have included an auction, the Fred Jennings Memorial Run, and a Dinner Dance Extravaganza. Also, an Endowment fund was created in 2004 and we are also recipients of United Way donations.
